Hello, John!

I think I have the answer, but I'll need your SS#, Checking Acct # and PIN, so I can re-route the Trojan coming in your back door from the credit reporting agency. When I'm done, you'll be rich enough to hire Bill Gates as your own personal Geek Squad to trouble shoot your computer any time this happens in the future.

That's so strange. could it be the flash card? I'm just guessing. Hopefully someone can help. I'll check these comments periodically. Keep us posted. Cheers and Beers.

If it's a hardware problem (as opposed to driver issues or conflict with other RECENTLY installed programs):

A. Sounds like your notebook's CCFL (backlight) inverter may be on it's way out (capacitors usually) or the associated IDC (Inverter Display Cable ) flat cable loose/cracked (from open/close cycles or a drop). When it goes out... if you study the black screen closely, you might still be able to see the actual screen info/presentation.

B. Occasionally, it can be a RAM, power supply, keyboard assembly or motherboard issue (usually from drops).

If you can hook an external desktop monitor to it, you might can determine whether it's A or B. Disconnect any other unnecessary USB devices, etc. If B, you might try removing a RAM module then swapping one module for the other, for example.

John, can you borrow a monitor from someone for a couple of days? At least that could narrow down your problem.

@Ish, oddly, the London underground is the oldest subway in the world, at around 150'ish years old, it just gets up dated every decade or so
