For communication, connection, and for creation and sharing of art in many forms. For dissemination of information world-wide. It's astounding. :)

It seems like it's just another way to reconnect. To get back what we lost that sense of closeness with our community. But the community becomes the whole world. It can seem to be a very vain thing also. But it depends on how you put yourself out there.
I couldn't agree with you more. Now we have gaming to add to the mix of distractions. Vlogging to me, is the most important media venue offered on the internet, made by the people for the people, from all over the world. I have always felt that vloggers will eventually be pushed to the wayside due to free speech and entertainment will take over. A more controlled internet, a forced evolvement, not a voluntary one. Great video, and if I worked at Youtube I'd feature it!
Thank you :) ... it does seem as though we will never beat the system when something gets recognised big brother will soon take over, but we can still build these new websites of utopia,
I am not sure on the history of this website, but it seems that its harder to be heard now on YouTube because of the internet stars, So was this website created to separate the real vloggers from the sea of amusements that covers YouTube
I don't think people are that complex. I think the story we tell others and we tell ourselves is, but we are what we are, we make choices based on who it is we want to be. I don't think there is a silver bullet, and I don't think there is a IT, which makes us all one community that share learn and grow. I think vlogging is a step, but like every other medium, print, radio, television, eventually it is going to be diluted into this hodgepodge where once like all the other mediums you in the begining have distinctive flavors it eventually evolved into a saturated mental toxic dump.
Vlogging is a fad, and as soon as people stop being amused at that brought them in it to begin with(themselves being seen and heard) they will quickly move on to something else and bitch that there is no forum for anybody to be heard, mainly themselves. I know it is seen as unpopular, and people complain about the strife, the simple fact is we are who we are, and outside of ways of kidding ourselves about that, the only way to really effect the masses like people is for something bad to happen, something destructive, that can force people out of that. Every medium has had it, and it will be that force that defines this also.
Before Geoff says it: "We are amusing ourselves to death" is Neil Postman's book, not Huxley's. But like many science fiction writers Huxley also predicted a world of distraction instead of critical thinking. And Postman was referring to Huxley.
I think Renetto opened this site with the same enthusiasm that you have at the moment (revolution, new medium for everbody, positive feedback etc...). Actually I didn't like the closedness (surveillance?) of the backcountry (that you were speaking of).
People who vlog are in no way representative IMO, only an extremely small percentage of citizens are actually vlogging (despite the low technical barriers). Vlogging is atm only appealing to certain personalities.
Either way, you already created some conversation with this vid :)
