I think the web is not conducive to intelligent discussion of ideas, at least so far. This especially applies to politics.

You sound like a Toastmaster ;-) vlogging and the commu. sites are tools people have not changed (masses prefer crap?)

It is called the attention economy, with ads and so many things screaming for attention we need filters- I prefer trusted piers to help me sort out "gems" in the time I have. Thank you for being one of my preferred filters of info. BTW the video stopped at 9:28 for me :-( ?

I think that as long as we don't ignore traditional Journalism in favour of high frequency Vlogging, and rather embrace both as different mediums in which to extract meaning, there is a useful future in both.

Also, you mentioned Game Theory. Rather than embracing the concept of 'Winners Curse' perhaps we should take a closer look at Nash's Equilibrium Theorem:
When we understand the different motivations for newsprint media, free to air TV, personal Vloggers, etc. We can come to appreciate the balance between marketability, solvency, relevance and cogency.

You develop a great argument, I just think you need to (to refer to decision theory again) slightly raise the optimism index to at least 0.6 ^_^

I take your essential point that the best info out there isn't so polarized and 'fantastic' and thus it becomes problematic to actually uncover the 'truth' if it can so be referred to.
Of course it is also true that the internet has allowed political propaganda through supposed third parties to proliferate in a ubiquitous manner.

As far as quality discussion goes, I think that it exists, it just fits into little niches, and it's not so mainstream. Of course the big shocks, one liners - out of context remarks etc - are the things that take up the best part of the spectacular "front" of the internet.

Lastly, I also feel that taste is important.
Great Video.

Mrs. Bush returns the compliment :) She and I are not going away, just slowing down and diversifying the sources of input. Thanks for watching.

There is good discussion out there, but to find it amidst the noise frustrates me. I have not been able to fully comprehend the Nash Equilibrium. My grasp of game theory is quite tenuous. It requires much more subtle and supple thought than most mathematics. I am not giving up, just trying to shake up my habits and refresh my point of view. Your comments are quite insightful.

I'd love to visit Alaska, it seems fascinating from everything I've read and seen. I've thought about moving there, but then-- after living in Florida for some 26 years, I'm sure it'd be quite a culture shock... and I'd freeze my booties off! lol St…

I agree with William T about your character, Jim. It's great to see. As for my redneck card, well, I've got my "Don't Tread on Me" flag in the shop. And I do own guns. I've hunted all my life (pheasants and quail). Nowadays I root for the quail and…
