I think the web is not conducive to intelligent discussion of ideas, at least so far. This especially applies to politics.

I am now completely in control of the content that comes my way. For example, I can watch German and French news on YouTube. If you think the Internet is shallow then you are just using it in a shallow way. The mainstream media has completely lost control of my attention and no longer directs my thinking on any subject.

Your standards are quite high. Kudos to ya.
Intelligent discourse, among other things, is enabled via vlogging, perhaps not inherent in the phenom itself (...because many humans love the crap. (?) ) By enabled, I mean that connections are made between/among bright minds and those connections transcend vlogging.
Vlogging is infectious. Ya can't keep dumb people out..and all of us in-between.
Political discourse went down the crapper before the advent of this medium. I'm pretty sure about that.
You wandered into the assessment of human nature, didn't you?
I'd say this vlog is far beyond meta-vlogging about vlogging.
PS. You are one helluva vlogger..just discovered you.

i expect that quality depends upon time and imagination, and also articulation.
variety is also an important part of the internet, and without those who don't blog well, how would we know who is vlogging well?
level of effort is a choice we all make.
