As everyone knows, most if not all websites have some sort of feedback regarding hits or visits to their site ... I have absolutely nothing against that, let's face it, if your spending money on developing a site and paying hosting fees etc, you'd like to know how many visits you're getting and where the traffic is coming from, especially if you are selling or promoting something.
However, I do have a problem with my location being made available to the general public without my authorization.
It leaves me with the feeling that my docs have been dropped to some degree, even if my exact address hasn't been revealed, the fact that the town, province and country has been exposed to any and everyone that lands on a particular page just doesn't sit well with me. It's not that I am paranoid, but it is something that I choose to keep to myself.
How do you feel about it, would it bother you if VH had a Live Statistics tracker, visable to anyone who visited a particular page showing their location as well as yours?

Comment by Suja on December 7, 2011 at 12:39am @KCV - Yes, I am aware of that, however when I land on a site that is displaying my location as well as that of others it feels like an invasion of privacy. I know, there is no privacy on the net, and we have to live with that fact.
What I was hoping for was feedback how you folks felt about it, does it bother you that people know what town you live in, or that they could possibly put two and two together and figure out your where abouts.
The reason I ask is because at one point in time I had a restraining order for protection purposes, furthermore to be working in a line of business where privacy was extremely important not necessarily for myself but for those I was working for. I know for a fact that had I been a member of a site where the info was privy for anyone to view, I would have cancelled my account.
Comment by Shawny L Blumenfeld on December 7, 2011 at 12:39am the internet is not private . my boss once asked me if I had a website long before I even knew what she was talking about .. I said "no" she said good because she would find out if I was lying and it would cost me my job. ok.... yikes and that was lonnng ago.. my 501 (c) 3 is posted all over the internet .. it is public has to be . I risk a lot and I have to have sheer luck in the human condition . so far [ knock on wood ] my family and animals are safe . satelites overhead can mark right on site to my house missed by one day usually. Google earth . there is no privacy . My friend Michael has gone back to hard journalizing .. and to coffeee house meetings for socializing

Comment by Suja on December 7, 2011 at 12:50am @PB - I know, I have trackers on all the websites I've developped, but the stats are not visible for every ones eyes.
Actually I was thinking of a6 when I wrote this blog, and the fact that in the past there was a time when I was being protected and it was to my advantage that my location was best left unknown.
My question was, how do you feel about it ?
Comment by a6 on December 7, 2011 at 12:52am however, your public IP is being logged right now, and is logged on every single web site you hit, the same way your phone number is logged every time you make a call
Yeah, but in that instance the owners (and admins?) see it... In the case of cities being published in our profiles, everybody sees it.
