I recently upgraded my Home Theater to Blu-Ray and a gargantuan flat-screen TV.
I also upgraded my audio system to full DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround.
So now I am looking for the VERY BEST movies to buy on Blu-Ray that will give this system a good workout.
To date I have bought the following Blu-Ray movies and my technical ratings are:
Sherlock Holmes - video 9 / audio 9
Ronin - video 8 / Audio 7
300 - video 10 / Audio 8
Gladiator - video 10 / Audio 10
Terminator 2 - video 10 / audio 10
Poseidon - video 9 / audio 10
Does anyone have a god system and recommend any "must-have" movies in terms of technical quality?
Probably Avatar, right? :-) Any others?
...any links to websites about this kind of stuff?
@PB - yeah! The part where they had the tigers mauling the gladiators was freaking awesome in HD on a large screen.
Vortex - you're not coming anywhere near my house then! :-)~~ Yes - the car chase is, in my opinion, the best car chase in any movie - even surpassing "Bullitt"
Comment by Victoria on February 24, 2012 at 12:05am I'm useless. I'm into indie films with kick ass writing.
I love all three of those, Lazlo. I bet Blade Runner is stunning on a big screen.
Netflix, on the other hand is CRAP with a good sound system - you can't hear the voices properly.
Comment by Drone on February 24, 2012 at 12:22am Blade the first one
Star Trek: First Contact
Warehouse 13 if you like SciFi
Pretty sure my next purchase at the weekend will be "Alien - Special Edition" - one of my all-time faves. Saw it on 70mm in London's Odeon Leicester Square the first night it was released
Comment by Jim on February 24, 2012 at 9:22am I would absolutely love to see Blade Runner in such a way.
Comment by Vitalfinds on February 24, 2012 at 9:46am I was about to buy the standard DVD " Planet of the Apes" on Amazon and ran into a huge discussion about the Blu-Ray version. They say that it's the best so far with picture quality, but that some of their speakers never went on.
Comment by Suburbanrider on February 24, 2012 at 11:29am I agree with all the above about Blade Runner. When I first saw some of the scenes in 35mm I think nothing has beat them so far in any movie.
Here is hoping the HD transfer did not come out mediocre.
Comment by Jim on February 26, 2012 at 12:55pm Ah, Blade Runner, so many editions.
Which one has the film-noir style voice over? I like that version the best.
