It's all about advertising.
I wonder what was going through Jason Rosenthal's mind when he wrote the words I quote in the title of this blog. Admittedly, and from what I am gathering I might add proudly, I know nothing about Glam Media, aside from the two Ning publicity articles I've read (linked in the… Continue

With better cameras creating larger and larger video files these days, it is indeed an odd and discomfiting throwback to have to labor under the 100mb upload restriction by Ning. But you can post videos to VH that are 15, 20, even 25 minutes or more. The key is video conversion.
Whether you are using an Apple, a Windows PC, or a Linux build, converting your videos to the natively compatible FLV format (flash video format) and… Continue

I know i'm a bit late for joining in this issue of whether or not VH will be here much longer. And no... I'm not here to rub your faces into it. Just thought I could offer some helpful 2 cents especially since I've had direct dealings with Ning before.
I'm surprised Tom G. didn't make such an announcement sooner. Why would someone keep paying for a site they don't really participate much in anymore? Then you have the whole aspect of Ning being Vloggerhead's hosting… Continue

As was noticed by John a short time ago in chat, there are now BUTTON OPTIONS to do things like edit your videos. This was not something we've selected here on VH, but something Ning has modified. I found a discussion about it here: http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/buttons-instead-of-links-yes
Here's what they look like:

As we all know, a recent video with PG-13 sex-related talk was removed from VH for being sexually explicit.
I shall quote specifically, since some members who haven't been able to follow all 2 bajillion comments and blogs have expressed some confusion:
To reiterate, the official reason given was nothing about whether it was a personal attack or insulting to anybody or their family members. It was for violating the "No… Continue

The following problems remain to be fixed since the upgrade over the weekend:
1. Extra pagination controls - extra sets of Previous and Next buttons below comments. Previous attempt to fix this broke comments again. I also had problems uploading a new version of the file.
2. Video Replies - Yikes! A problem seems to have occurred.
This may be difficult to fix if the new Ning version changed something.
3. Email Notifications - HTML format options seem to… Continue

I remember reading about a mobile version of Ning sites back when the Ning Developer Network was worth browsing through but I didn't think to check it out on my iTouch until today. You can access the mobile version of any Ning site using the usual web address with a /m
at the end:
Those links will even work in Firefox but… Continue

OK Quick questions...
1) Whats this problem I hear about converting videos?
2) Is anyone else having trouble with their email updates?
3) George, are you OK?
4) What Important things have i missed so far in '09?
Oh, BTW......Random Fact: Did you know that If you were to count numbers by spelling them, you wouldn't start a word with the letter 'a' till 101

I was trying to fix the Ning Bar today, the strip of controls at the very top of the page. Vloggerhead’s Ning Bar does not look like a new Ning site’s Ning Bar. The source code I have is clearly missing some code for it so I checked out the Ning versions.
The original version of Vloggerheads was 3.4.5:6517. After I used the merge tool the version became 3.7.1:9983. However, the version for a new site is 3.8.5:10867. The RSS feed for releases… Continue

I just posted the following on my TrueTalk blog
We took a small step towards opening up VloggerHeads yesterday. At least, we tried to. We ran into some database conversion problems that eventually led Ning to take our network offline in an attempt to fix things.
Except that they didn't forewarn us they were going to take it down.
Laura, who is managing our case,… Continue

We've been informed by Ning (we use the Ning platform and servers) that there will be platform maintenance performed this coming Friday, September 26, at 12:30 AM Pacific time.
During this time, the site will be down for about an hour, from 12:30 to 1:30 AM Pacific Time.
During that time, you will not be able to log in to VloggerHeads. You will be able to check the Ning Status Blog
for any updates.

I've started to read a book I bought on Amazon about CakePHP. CakePHP is the closest thing to the Ning platform you'll find. It is a MVC web application framework based on Ruby On Rails. MVC stands for Model View Controller. It is a new web application architecture that has become very popular because it promises rapid development. Even Microsoft is jumping on the MVC bandwagon with an ASP.NET version that will be released soon.
I was studying CakePHP before I started to work with… Continue

I have created a Yahoo! Widget for Vloggerheads, actually any Ning network site, which you can download from my web site at: http://www.williamsportwebdeveloper.com/NingYahooWidget.htm
Just follow the instructions to install the widget which runs on your desktop and not on this site. If my instructions are not clear you can find more detailed instructions for other Yahoo! Widgets.
