I am posting this to make clear just why I have decided to make an idiot of myself on Vloggerheads.
I save racing greyhounds after their racing days are over, and have done do for the past, nearly, 11 years.
Greyhounds are poorly treated by the greyhound racing community which disposes of them as soon as they do not make money. In the UK its the second most popular spectator sport (is sport the right word?). Its worth millions (maybe billions) to the bookies who largely own it, and they don't give a s--t about what happens after the dogs finish racing. It is estimated - there are no exact figures 'cos its not in the interests of the industry to keep them - that 10000 come out of racing each year and 5000 find homes. The rest are 'Put to Sleep'.
I want to change this. The more we publicise the plight of the greyhounds the more the industry may be shamed into doing something about it.
So what have I got to lose? Maybe one of you will look at my videos and give a greyhound a chance.

To date (October 2010) we have found homes for just over 665 dogs, a few of them lurchers, but the vast majority ex-racers or coursers. Most of the coursers have originated in Cumbria. We have found that despite their size – they tend to be larger and heavier than racing dogs – they make equally as good pets. The lucky owners who have one would say better!
If you would like to help us find homes for retired greyhounds, please get in touch. You don’t have to own a greyhound, or even a dog. All you need is a little time and a big heart!
